Hospice East Rand’s Polar Plunge is back

A former Olympian swimmer will take the plunge on August 20.

Former Olympic swimmer Doug Erasmus will join Hospice East Rand in its annual Polar Plunge on August 20.

The fundraising event will be held live for the first time in two-years, since the onset of Covid-19.

This year’s event will also be offer a virtual feature for those who are not yet ready to face the crowds. Virtual participants can take a dip in any pool of their choice to support the cause and everyone who takes part stands the chance to win great prizes.

By taking the icy plunge between August 19 and 21, participants assist by raising much needed funds for the organisation.

Entries are R50 each and the more you buy the better your chances of winning prizes, ranging from a Fujifilm Instax camera, sunglasses as well as biltong and wine hampers.

The live event will take place on August 20, from 09:00 to 12:00, at the St Benedict’s College Indoor Pool, where you can rub shoulders with the legendary Olympian while enjoying a hot cup of cocoa.
