Local NPO empowers youth to advocate themselves

The event was initiated to bring young people together.

In line with Youth Day local NPO, Flock of God (FOG), in collaboration with Kasie FM and Edge Garage, organised a youth empowerment initiative on June 16.

The event, designed to assist young people in starting and promoting their own businesses, was held at the Edge Garage in Boksburg.

FOG’s Mxolisi Motha said the event was aimed at addressing unemployment among the youth.
“We know the challenges that the youth of 1976 faced at the time, and we also understand the challenges faced by the youth now.

“We cannot afford to let our future leaders sit at home doing nothing. We decided to encourage them to do something that will empower them,” said Motha.

Kasie FM representative Lucky Six said young people remain the highest unemployed group.
“It is heart-aching to witness our future leaders being unemployed. We organised this event to help raise their collective voices for change.

“We do not want them to be concerned about where their next meal will come from. We want them to fight this battle they are facing and become empowered,” said Six.

One of the beneficiaries Clemencia Chitsinde said being at home and doing nothing can be exhausting. She started selling cosmetics because she always has been passionate about selling and being her own boss.

“I believe rather than doing nothing, we as young people should unite our efforts and have faith in our abilities to create jobs for ourselves. I’m hopeful that this initiative will help promote our businesses.”
