Residents seek an end to sewage spill

The residents of the area said they can only be satisfied, if the City can investigate the cause of the blockage.

Residents of Greenwich Village in Sydney Road, Ravenswood, said the City of Ekurhuleni comes with short-term solutions to a sewer manhole that’s frequently blocked.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said they have lived with this filthy health hazard for a long time.
“Faeces and toilet paper were all over my yard and I couldn’t wash dishes in my house because of the bad stench coming from the sewage water.

“Sewage water flooded three yards in the area and owners of the houses said they no longer enjoy their homes. My problem is that the manhole keeps blocking and the metro hasn’t found a permanent solution.”

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the Department of Water and Sanitation will urgently deal with the matter.

“The department will clean the sewer pipeline, and conduct a complete CCTV investigation to determine the condition of the pipeline. as well as the cause of the frequent blockages.

“Residents of Boksburg who have a service delivery issue are urged to contact the Ekurhuleni Call Centre on 086 054 3000 to report this. The Call Centre will escalate the matter to the relevant department’s HOD,” said Dlamini.
