Ekurhuleni serial rapist trial set to start in October

The accused has allegedly been terrorising women and children in Benoni and other areas since 2012

The state and the defence in the case against the alleged Ekurhuleni serial rapist have consented to another postponement.

The trial against the accused was set to begin last month but was postponed for consultations.
At the latest court appearance on June 13 in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court, Judge Anneke van Wyk said the case will be heard from October 31 to November 4 for purposes of plea and trial.

The suspect faces about 203 charges, including rape, kidnapping, theft and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, related to offences committed in and around Ekurhuleni between 2012 and March 2021.

He was arrested in March last year in Barcelona, Etwatwa, after evading police for nearly nine years.
In February his bail application was opposed.

During his bail application hearing, the court heard that the suspect used a knife, firearm and bare hands to subdue his victims.
He allegedly would install meter boxes or geysers or say he was a house inspector or a food distributor or someone looking for directions when approaching his victims.
