NPO feeds children in Joe Slovo

The NPO was founded last year.

Thusang Community Development NPO fed 300 children through its soup kitchen programme in Joe Slovo informal settlement, on June 5.

The founder of Thusang , Lufuno Mudzuli said he formed this NPO because he wanted to combat societal issues in the area he has worked in for 17 years, including its neighbouring areas.

“We are not just providing a soup kitchen programme as an NPO, but we are also initiating programmes that educate people about gender-based- violence (GBV), substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and bullying.

“We are also empowering the youth with skills development programmes, we want to effect change in the informal settlement areas in Boksburg.

“Our soup kitchen programme is an ongoing project, but we only initiate it on Saturdays. We wanted to also host it during the week, but our only stumbling block is that we lack food.

“For the soup kitchen programme to be also held during the week we need sponsors, if anyone can sponsor us that will be a great relief,” said Mudzuli.

Mudzuli added that there are a lot of underprivileged families in the Boksburg area that need help, especially in the informal settlements.

“Our main aim as an NPO is to help those families hence I named the NPO Thusang Community Development.
“The word ‘Thusang’ is derived from Sepedi language, it means ‘help’. In my understanding, as humans we need to help each other to survive,” he said.

“This NPO also plays a crucial role in tackling domestic violence and GBV in the informal settlement areas in Boksburg. We sometimes do door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness about it,” explained Mudzuli.

Any person who wants to donate to the Thusang Community Development NPO can do so through its website, which is www.thusang.org.za or call Muduli on 010 0300 630 or 061 592 9178 or 073 145 1997.
