Two ‘most wanted’ suspects behind bars

Things heated up when a Bolt driver was hijacked on May 23.

On May 24, the EMPD Special Task Team arrested two suspects who were on the Reiger Park SAPS most wanted list.

Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Const Zanele Motaung said the EMPD Special Task Team, along with EMPD SWAT, Fidelity SIU, ADT Task Team, High-Risk Tracking Unit, Reiger Park police and CPF, had been hunting the suspects for four weeks.

“Things heated up when a Bolt driver was hijacked on May 23. It is believed that suspects were involved. The suspects had been on the most wanted list since April and their arrests came after a National Crime Intelligence head office tip-off to the EMPD Special Task Team about their movements.

“The task team acted swiftly and nabbed the suspects at Papachinos Restaurant in Sunward Park during the day. They then brought them to our police station where the investigating officer who assisted the EMPD Special Task Team realised that the suspects are also linked to other crimes reported at the police station.

“There are ongoing investigations in all cases the two suspects may be linked to.

“They were arrested for the alleged hijacking of the Bolt driver but we believe they are linked to crimes such as robbery, extortion, attempted murder, murder and other serious and violent crimes in Reiger Park and surrounding areas,” said Motaung.

The station commander of Reiger Park Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Roets commended the teamwork that led to the arrests.

“We don’t have a place for such criminals in Reiger Park and our main objective is to see justice prevail,” said Roets.
