Operation Okae Molao yields good results in Boksburg North

Operation Okae Molao is formed to tackle lawlessness.

Operation Okae Maloa (Where is the law?) in the Boksburg North policing area yielded good results on May 12.

It led to several arrests and the shutting down of illegal shebeens.

The operation, led by Ekurhuleni district manager Maj-Gen Anna Sithole, was executed by Ekurhuleni SAPS members, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic, CPF, Home Affairs and other stakeholders.

The teams, who were assembled for different tasks, conducted a roadblock on Atlas Road and known crime hot spots in different parts in the Boksburg North precinct.

According to the police, the following successes were achieved during the operation:

• Six undocumented persons were arrested and two foreign nationals were also busted for possession of drugs. Another suspect was apprehended for dealing with dagga.

• One suspect was brought to book for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as one suspect for common assault. Twelve vehicles and two trailers were impounded.

• Furthermore, 66 traffic fines were issued to those who contravened the Road Traffic Act to the value of R28 500, three fines were issued for contravention of the Liquor Act and three Illegal shebeens were closed and two fines were issued for contravention of second-hand goods non-compliance.

The detectives in Ekurhuleni District police stations also continued with their routine suspect tracing operations from May 11 at 19: 00 until May 12, when 277 suspects were brought to book.

Among the crimes are 197 committed contact crimes, 48 for malicious damage to

properties, three for possession of stolen motor vehicles, one for stolen properties and 23 for gender-based violence related issues.

In support of Operation Okae Maloa, members of SAPS social crime prevention and communication coordinators also engaged with the community in the vicinity of the police station and East Rand Mall.

During the encounters, they highlighted gender-based violence and encouraged the community to report it as well as contact crimes that affect them.

Sithole appreciated the impact made by the teams who are always available when duty calls and thanked them for serving the community with pride to bring crime to the minimum.
