Here are some of the serious crimes recently reported to the Boksburg police:

A couple wakes up to gun-toting intruders

A Boksburg South couple survived a home invasion when a gang of three armed men robbed their home on President Brand Street on May 4.

According to police reports, the couple woke up at about 02:00 by a commotion in the house before they noticed five men in the bedroom. The pair was tied up with a scarf before taken to the living room, where the intruders started to help themselves to valuable items. They took a TV set, sound system, cell phone, laptop, projector, clothes, wifi router and a car battery. No shots were fired, and no injuries reported.

  • In Freeway Park, a homeowner woke up on May 4 to find that thieves have broken into his home on Constantia Road and stolen valuable goods. The intruders forced open one of the doors to steal a laptop, jewellery and cell phones.

‘Cops’ hijack vehicle
On May 4, a gang of thugs wearing police masks hijacked a vehicle in Boksburg, and held the driver hostage before dumping him in an undisclosed location.

According to police reports, the Germiston man was driving along Van Wyk Louw Drive in Parkrand when the occupants of a blue Toyota Corolla impersonating a police officer signalled for him to pull off. He complied and one of them men approached his vehicle, a Volkswagen Tiguan, and started questioning him about the vehicle ownership.

Three men from the Corolla suddenly jumped into the victim’s vehicle and pushed the man onto the back seat where he was blindfolded and tied up with shoelaces. They took the victim’s cell phone and bank cards.

When they reached an undisclosed location, the victim was transferred into another vehicle and dumped at unknown area. The complainant later walked to a nearby main road where he received help from a taxi driver who borrowed his cellphone to him for phoning his friends to get him.

  • In the Boksburg CBD, a driver had his car hijacked while waiting for the traffic light to turn green on Market Street on May 4. The victim told the police that as his bakkie, an Opel, was stationary at the traffic lights when two men approached him. With one of them aiming a gun at him, they forced him out of the vehicle and drove off.

A Plantation man watched helplessly as gunmen stole his Honda motorcycle in broad daylight on May 5. The victim told police that he received a tip-off about people removing the motorcycle. Upon checking, he noticed the five men putting his motorcycle onto a white Nissan NP200. He tried to intervene, but they aimed a gun at him before leaving with his motorcycle.

  • A motorist had his car, a grey Volkswagen Polo, stolen while parked on Commissioner Street opposite Victoria Court in the Boksburg CBD on May 5. The man told police that he parked the car at about 20:45 and when he returned to the spot at about 21:30, the car was nowhere.
