Help NPO to keep its soup kitchen going

The NPO also helps fight GBV and other social ills in the community.

The NPO Thusang Community Development supports the poor in society and is requesting donations so that they can transform the lives of the underprivileged.

The Ramaphosa informal settlement NPO has a soup kitchen.

The development also runs a programme that provides sanitary towels to girls and women that cannot afford to buy sanitary towels.

According to the chairperson of community development, Witness Marimo, although they target 250 girls in the provision of towels, they want to increase the number.

“In terms of the soup kitchen, we serve an estimated number of about 150 children on weekends as we noticed that at least during the week they eat at school (feeding scheme).

“We visit schools because sometimes some girls even find themselves in a stage whereby they can’t go to school due to the lack of these towels,” said Marimo.

The chairperson also explained that the NPO also helps fight GBV and other social ills in the community.

“We help the victims of GBV by referring them to social workers and to the police station to open cases. We also help fight bullying at schools by holding talks with children about the danger of substance abuse,” mentioned Marimo.

Marimo said that anyone is welcome in assisting them.

“By teaming up with us, we shall form and strengthen our business relations which will be beneficial to not only us but to the society as well.”

Sgt Mudzuli from Rieger Park Police Station who is also part of the initiative said that the development has a huge impact on the community.

“Children now know that they have a place to go to when they want food on weekends.

“We do different programmes like sports against crime, domestic violence awareness campaigns to help the community by all means and so far we need support from people who are willing to help,” said Mudzuli.
