Local model to represent South Africa in London

Atlasville resident Michaela Brewer is standing tall as she will represent South Africa at Top Model World Wide in London in September after being announced the winner of Opulent Model South Africa female runway winner 2022 recently.

The 20-year-old beauty queen explained Opulent Model South Africa, previously Top Model South Africa, is the number one modelling-search competition in SA.

“It is the exclusive South African partner of Top Model Worldwide in London. When I was scouted in 2020 and made the finals for the Opulent Model South Africa show, it was immediately delayed due to the pandemic. The show only took place in 2022 due to the pandemic and was held at Time Square Sun Arena, Menlyn, Pretoria, on February 24. With only one day of rehearsals on February 23, it was an intense and fulfilling two days. There were three separate shows on February 24, with the grand finale at 19:00.

“I participated in the female runway category with 17 other finalists. The crowning took place at the end of the grand finale, with the female runway category being the last to be announced.

“After a satisfying day, I was announced as the winner,” she explained.

Michaela said she was pleasantly surprised about being victorious.

“My goal when I became a finalist was to win the competition. I put in maximum effort throughout this journey to achieve it. Yes, I did expect to win as I put in all my effort and previous experience towards winning this title.

“Having participated in other competitions and this being the biggest modelling-search competition in South Africa, I wanted to take the opportunity to further my career and branch out into international waters,” the top model added.

Some of her responsibilities as the winner include being a positive role model for the Opulent Models brand and being a consistent brand ambassador for the sponsors and organisers on social media and publicly.

She also won several prizes from all the sponsors, some of which are facial products, fitness sponsorships, ambassadorships and eyewear, among other things.

Brewer was born and raised in Atlasville and is studying towards a BCom in Business Management and Marketing degree. She is of British and German descent.

Michaela started modelling in 2009 and joined her first agency when she was 14.

“My inspiration came from both my mother and father as they pushed me to achieve the best in this industry. My mother pushed me into the runway industry and my dad, as a photographer, into the photographic industry.

Once I become more confident in the industry, certain models like Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo became a secondary inspiration,” she added.

Her future goals are to finish her degree and become an international model. She would also like to start a model management agency.
