Cellphone shops targeted at East Rand Mall

Nobody was injured during the robberies.

A gang of armed robbers made off with laptops and cellphones during two robberies at cellphone shops at the East Rand Mall last week.

According to Boksburg North SAPS station commander Col Mack Mngomezulu, the first robbery on April 19 took place at about 19:00.

“A number of robbers held up a security guard who was patrolling the mall and broke open the sliding door of a cellphone store and took cellphones and laptops. The value of the stolen items is undisclosed,” said Mngomezulu.

Meanwhile, another cellphone store inside the mall was robbed in broad daylight on April 22.

“A number of robbers walked into the cellphone store inside the mall and held customers and employees hostage,” he added.

They also made off with cellphones and laptops.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured.

Police are investigating cases of business robbery.

They appeal to community members to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Anyone with information may contact the police on 08600 10 111.
