14 people injured on Barry Marais Road

“The commuters have a responsibility to reprimand any taxi driver or car driver if he/she is not driving safely to minimise the number of accidents.”

Fourteen people were injured during an accident between two taxis and a bakkie at around 06:30 on April 5 on Barry Marais Road in Dawn Park.

DEMS media liaison manager William Ntladi said the Wadeville emergency personnel attended the accident scene.“Our emergency personnel found the Gauteng ambulance personnel on scene upon arrival.

They quickly helped to stabilise those who were injured and then assisted in transporting the injured to different hospitals.

“The cause of the accident is still unknown. The accident scene was immediately handed over to the EMPD,” said Ntladi.
EMPD liaison officer Kobeli Mokheseng said there are a lot of taxi accidents happening in Ekurhuleni and advised commuters to speak out if they see any driver of a taxi driving dangerously.

“The commuters have a responsibility to reprimand any taxi driver or car driver if he/she is not driving safely to minimise the number of accidents.

“We are still investigating the matter. If we find a sign of reckless driving and the people involved in the accident are severely injured, we will open a case of reckless and negligent driving. If someone dies among those who were injured, a case of culpable homicide will also be opened and handed over to the Dawn Park police,” said Mokheseng.
