Boksburg North SAPS apprehends hijackers

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Col Mack Mngomezulu has commended Sgt Buti Kunene and Const Nkosinathi Mkhonza for arresting two hijackers in possession of police jackets on Solomon Street, Lillianton, on March 30.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, Boksburg North crime prevention members were doing their routine duties when they spotted a BMW 3 Series parked, with the boot open.

“When approached, the occupants sped off but were later cornered and searched. They were found in possession of three police reflector jackets, three police caps, four police masks, one police bunny jacket, one police training shirt, two police blue lights, one Taurus 9mm pistol (serial number filed off), one magazine with seven live rounds, one Kuzey Pizz black toy gun with six rounds for the toy gun, one police hand radio, one set of handcuffs, one bolt cutter, one police belt, one police siren and two number plates (registration numbers HP78TZGP and BTD233B),” said Ramaube.

Registration number FR50HVGP was fitted on the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle was hijacked as per a Jeppe SAPS case number.

The arrested suspects were detained at Boksburg North SAPS on the following charges: possession of hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, including possession of police uniform and other instruments.
