UPDATE: Beaten dog finds loving home

Both dogs are adjusting well in their new homes.

Beer (Bear), the husky/chow cross that the Boksburg SPCA confiscated from a home in Impala Park on January 27, recently found a new home and is doing well.

The dog of about two years was confiscated after sustaining injuries from being beaten, allegedly by its owner.
Beer is now living in Witfield with Verona Coetzer and her mother Lorraine Coetzer and her nephew, Armand Coetzer. They also have two other dogs, Zaria (husky) and Mia (basset hound), two cats, Katarina and Isadore, and a parrot, Frosty.

Verona explained she couldn’t get Beer out of her head after reading articles about him in the Advertiser and immediately applied to adopt him.

“I wanted to get a friend for Zaria that is her age and size, and I wanted to adopt because there are so many animals that deserve a good home.

“It was certainly the right decision. They started playing together on day one, even though Zaria was shy in the beginning. Zaria looks so much happier now and Mia is the one who encourages them when they play,” said Verona.

Verona added Beer is so part of the household that it feels like they had him for a long time.

“Beer has a lovable personality. I haven’t heard him growl once, even if Zaria steals his food.”

She encouraged people to adopt as it is an enriching feeling to rescue an animal.

Lorraine and Anthony Antoniou adopted Ted.

Ted, Beer’s brother who was rescued with him, was recently adopted by Lorraine and Anthony Antoniou from Northmead.

According to Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, the society officially laid charges against the owner.

Finnemore previously expressed her gratitude to Dr Ross Elliot and Dr Sarah Johnson at Onderstepoort Veterinary Hospital for accommodating the society so quickly and for taking such good care of Bear.

“Boksburg SPCA thanks the two amazingly generous donors who were touched by the torment this gentle dog suffered. On hearing that an MRI scan was recommended for Beer, they ensured he was seen by top specialists at Onderstepoort and organised his MRI. They also generously covered Beer’s R4 000 Onderstepoort account for Boksburg SPCA,” she added.
