Laerskool Concordia hosts Boksburg North SAPS awareness campaign

The men and women in uniform and stakeholders conducted a kidnapping and carjacking scenario at the school.

The Boksburg North SAPS wants learners to be educated about crime-related issues concerning them and the services the SAPS offers the community.

This prompted the station to embark on a school awareness campaign together with other SAPS role players such as the Mounted Unit, Stock Theft, Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligent and Tactical Team, provincial corporate, Provincial Social Crime Office, Highway Patrol, EHW, CPF, Medicross, security companies, ERWAT water services and other external stakeholders at Laerskool Concordia on March 16.

“The initiative kicked off with police officers educating learners about bullying,” said Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube.

Afterwards, the officers and the stakeholders conducted an interesting kidnapping and carjacking scenario on the school’s rugby field where a mother was hijacked and her children kidnapped.

“In the display, the police and stakeholders demonstrated caught up with the violent criminals. We also handed pamphlets and colouring books to learners,” said Ramaube.

Ramaube described the event as a success.

Tips

Const Justice Ramaube highlighted that children should not talk to strangers or accept anything from them and report suspicious activities.

“They must also value their lives, it’s more important than possessions.”

Grade Five learners from Laerskool Concordia Annemie Engelbrecht, Mika Viviers and Layla Leitoa said they enjoyed the demonstration and learned a lot.

“The shooting between the police and suspects was my favourite part of the demonstration. Now I also know not to go to strange cars or accept sweets from strangers,” said Annemie Engelbrecht.
