Watch: Lawbreakers arrested in Dawn Park

"Our plan is to combat lawlessness."

Police arrested 27 illegal migrants, impounded 13 taxis, confiscated an alleged stolen car and issued traffic fines amounting to R65 000 during an Operation Okae Molao roadblock in Dawn Park on March 17 on Barry Marais Road.

Two suspects were also found with a police reflector vest.

The operation was held in association with the EMPD and led by district commissioner Anna Sithole. Barry Marais Road was chosen as it is a hot spot for hijackings.

“Other teams were enforcing the law in Dawn Park. One such team was checking liquor compliance licences in Dawn Park, closing three illegal shebeens,” said Sithole.

Another team searched for drugs and arrested three suspects for possession of dagga and one for dealing in drugs.

“We want to ensure the residents of Dawn Park feel safe. We are aware of bodies that are recovered in the grasslands around Dawn Park. It seems like those people are killed somewhere else and dumped in Dawn Park.

“We have an intervention plan in place. We are going to deploy police officers to patrol the areas where the bodies were discovered.

“Our crime stats show there are a lot of criminal activities in Dawn Park, so we are going to carry out another crime combating operation,” said Sithole.
