Police unearth illegally buried body of baby in Driefontein

We searched for the body and found it.

The Reiger Park SAPS, SAPS K-9 Unit, SAPS Mount Unit and SAPS Rescue and Search Unit unearthed an illegally buried body of a one-month-old baby on March 8 at Driefontein mine dump in Delmore.

According to the Reiger Park SAPS’ spokesperson, Const Zanele Motaung, the Reiger Park police were tipped off by a resident of Ulana informal settlement during a door to door gender-based violence campaign that a family buried their child secretly.

“The family didn’t want to reveal the truth at first, but eventually the father confessed to having buried his child.
“The detection dogs were called up to the crime scene to help out with the location of the body. An inquest has been opened by the Reiger Park police,” said Motaung.
