"We decisively deal with crime as the EMPD, working together with the SAPS."

An overturned stolen vehicle caused a headache for commuters in Klippoortjie this morning (February 28).

According to the EMPD, the grey Toyota Yaris was stolen during a house burglary in Phuchupi Street, Thokoza Extension Two, and discovered overturned in Heidelberg Road, Klippoortjie, in the early hours of this morning.

EMPD Swat Unit officers were on the scene early but found the criminals had fled.

The vehicle was recovered.

According to the spokesperson of the EMPD, Kelebogile Thepa, a case of burglary and car theft has been opened at Thokoza Police Station.

“Thokoza SAPS is investigating the case, so we are going to give any information we gathered today to them.

“We don’t have any leads and have not arrested anyone, but if any lead comes up, we are going to work with the Thokoza SAPS in the investigation.

“The recovered stolen vehicle was taken to the SAPS 13 Van Rhyn Deep vehicle depot in Benoni.

“A case won’t be opened yet because the car was found overturned and damaged, without anyone inside it,” said Thepa.
