Boksburg SAPS encourages congregants to report unlawful activities

"We can do more if we are united. Crime can be reduced."

The Boksburg SAPS along with a forensic nurse of Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Hazel Moagi, encouraged congregants of Light OF The World Church in Angelo informal settlement on February 13 to report any unlawful activities.

The Boksburg SAPS station commander, Col Matshedeso Mbele, said they were at the church as part of their divine intervention programme, where they were praying and strengthening their relationship with the congregants of the church.

“We came here because we need help from the congregants to combat crime. We know that the church is serving the same purpose as us. We want them to get to know us as police officers of Boksburg SAPS,” said Mbele.

Spokesperson of Boksburg SAPS, Sgt Ntsako Ledwaba, said the community of Angelo must be active in combatting crime and reporting any criminal activities.

He also told congregants that any person who knows anything about a crime then says nothing about it is as guilty as the criminal.

“The community mustn’t hide any information about a crime from the police. We are usually accused of not doing our work but another problem lies with the community that withholds information from us,” said Ledwaba,

Moagi reiterated the same sentiments and informed the congregants that there are five care centres that deal with raped victims in Ekurhuleni. These centres are in Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Pholosong Hospital, Thembisa Hospital and Tambo Memorial Hospital.

“Any rape victim should be taken to either of these centres,” said Moagi.
