Meet the management at Boksburg North SAPS

Boksburg North SAPS recently welcomed a new station commander and Visible Policing Unit (Vispol) commander that are ready to serve the community.

The station will now be run under the auspices of Col Mack Mngomezulu. On January 24, he took over the reins from station commander Col Khumbulani Mbatha, who is now stationed at Tsakani SAPS.

He began his career in the SAPS in 1991 after completing his police training. He then worked his way up to the top ranks of warrant officer and lieutenant-colonel.

The new station commander previously worked at police stations, including Actonville, Gauteng SAPS head office (provincial spokesperson), Ekurhuleni Central Cluster (head of police spokesperson) and Daveyton.

Mngomezulu explained his main priority is to reinstate trust between the police and community.

“I also want the station to worked hand in hand with security stakeholders.”

He highlighted he already identified issues in the community, such as substance abuse, hijackings and business robberies.

“I want to encourage community members to report crime.”

Lt-Col Thembi Skhosana is the new Vispol commander.

Furthermore, Lt-Col Thembi Skhosana has been appointed Boksburg North SAPS first female Vispol commander.

The Dayveton resident took over from Lt-Col Sipho Mathebula following his retirement.

Skhosana vowed to be there for the community and ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

“I’m always available for community members. I also don’t like to be office-bound. If there is a problem, I will assist,” she highlighted.

Skhosana joined the service in 1995 in Crystal Park, where she started as a constable after completing the police training. She was promoted to the top ranks of warrant officer, captain and lieutenant-colonel.

Before her transfer to Boksburg North, Skhosana also worked at police stations, including Norkem Park and Welbekend.

The top cop said she is looking forward to work at Boksburg North SAPS, and she has been welcomed with open arms.

“My main priority is to get all stakeholders to work together to reduce crime. Our CPF, for example, is extremely important. They are our ears and eyes. A police station is lost without a CPF,” said Skhosana.

When asked if she is facing any challenges as a woman in the force, she replied: “Older men seem to believe that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. They don’t want to be controlled by a woman. It is in their culture.”
