Former principal wants his book to motivate the youth

The book consists of 12 chapters that are structured as 12 boxing rounds.

Former principal of Illinge High School and a lecturer at the University of Johannesburg Jabulani Mtshali recently published an autobiography entitled Living a Life of Purpose.

The book is a detailed memoir of his life, mostly focusing on his transition from boxer to teacher, then obtaining a doctorate in teaching.

Mtshali said he wrote the book to advise the youth to live a drug-free life and motivate them to pursue their dreams. He indicated the youth can make good life choices after reading his book.

The book consists of 12 chapters that are structured as 12 boxing rounds. He said he structured the book in that format because he loves boxing and it has played a crucial role in shaping him to be the man he is today. He added boxing has also instilled good moral values and discipline in him.

The retired principal said he covers the distinctive topic of making good life choices and explained he focused on that topic because he got to understand that choices shape a person’s future.

“I covered the topic because I want people to be cautious every time they choose their lives. I want to impel people to make good choices by understanding who they are. I believe if you can make good life choices, you are likely to succeed in life.

“Sport must be re-established in schools because it can diminish the plight of drug abuse in our country’s schools. I’m a product of sport; boxing helped me refrain from taking drugs. I had no time to loiter around in my youth because of boxing,” Mtshali said.
