Boksburg SAPS Sector Four CPF members took the responsibility to cut the long grass in an area identified as a crime hotspot at Comet Village on January 25.
The grass is found next to the Oos Rand railway station at the village and it is widely known for serving as a hideout for criminals who target pedestrians.
According to the CPF members, crime in the area has given them sleepless nights. They revealed that a young girl was almost raped there and they also found a dead body.
Such concerns led them to cut the long grass to prevent criminal activities.
CPF chairperson Julius Stuurman said: “We are also appealing to people in Boksburg to help us by donating grass cutting equipment and our protection items like pepper spray and torches, so we can keep the community safe.
“Anyone willing to assist may call our PRO Patrick Mjoli on 079 731 2421,” said Stuurman.
They said they will continue to patrol the streets to find the criminals that are targeting the community.
“We are ready to do our duty as CPF members, but it is a bit difficult to do it without any equipment. We plead for assistance,” said Mjoli.
