A new year means a fresh opportunity with the French lottery

The French lottery provides winning opportunities for South African players. This is what you need to do to participate.

A new year can bring fresh opportunities to try new things. Playing the French lottery is certainly among these, if you haven’t already.

From Franschoek to Parys, South Africans enjoy their so-called love affair with France and entering the biggest lottery in that country, from the comfort of your own home here in Mzanzi, has never been easier.

The French lotto has three draws each week – that’s one more time than a lot of other lotteries around the world and, indeed, in South Africa.

You can catch it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, around 9pm SA time.  That means a good chance to get in on the act at the start, in the middle and towards the end of the week.

To play the French lottery, you just have to select five numbers from a pool of one to 49. And then do the same with one bonus number from one to 10. You can choose these digits manually or use a quick-pick option.

In order to win the jackpot, it takes guessing all six numbers correctly – so it’s the regular digits and the bonus one. There are smaller prizes available, too. In fact, there are nine categories in total. The more numbers you get right, the bigger the potential prize. Even for the lowest prize, just two correct numbers are required. For instance, The Bitcoin Lotto (1 : 13,983,816), German Lotto (1 : 15,537,573) and Polish Lotto (1 : 13,983,816) have stronger odds for winning the main prize. But the Spanish Lotto (1 : 31,625,100), Oz Powerball (1 : 76,767,600) and World Millions (1 : 100,000,000) main prize odds are not as good as what the French Lotto offers.

The French Lotto, actually, is in the top 10 list when it comes to the best odds of winning the main prize. Speaking of the main prize, its historical best weighed in at the equivalent of more than R390 million a few years back. That’s a hang of a lot of life-changing bucks for most South Africans, indeed.

If you are wondering what the odds of winning the French lottery jackpot are, that approximation is about one in 19 million. That’s quite a high number, but not as large as some of the world’s other jackpot prizes odds.

These are not guarantees, but there are a few ways of increasing the chances of winning the French lottery.

To reiterate, the French Lotto happens three times a week. That effectively adds up to 150-plus times a year. Betting on multiple draws significantly ups your chances of clinching prizes. But you will have to keep this in mind each and every week if you want to take advantage on a consistent basis. If you are forgetful, using a subscription option can always help. This is a good, automated renewal process or it can run until you decide it’s time to cancel it.

You also don’t have to be limited to picking five numbers and the bonus. Each extra number chosen requires an additional fee, but this can pay off because entering more numbers means the chances of getting them right increases. This feature is ostensibly a system bet.
