The City of Ekurhuleni discourages residents from giving its employees Christmas gifts and municipal workers may not ask for a Christmas tip.
According to the metro, it is against council policy to gift officials from the City of Ekurhuleni with any goodies for services rendered.
“This is prevalent during the festive season at times regarded as ‘gifting season’ as many residents tend to give small gifts of gratitude, especially to waste removal services officials,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
The City cautions against this act of kindness from its customers.
“Waste collectors or officials are also discouraged from demanding or asking for a ‘Christmas box’ from residents. Officials receive their monthly salaries; therefore, they do not need to receive any gifts or advances from residents for performing their duties.”
