Meet the new Ekurhuleni Mayoral Committee

Mayor Campbell reminded members of the committe that they owe it to every resident who placed their trust in them to ensure they deliver a responsive and accountable government that takes Ekurhuleni forward.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell has over the weekend announced the City’s newly appointed MMCs.

During the event, comprising councillors from different political parties, Campbell said: “After careful consideration and broad consultation with our coalition partners, I am confident the individuals appointed today will usher in a new era of service delivery and accountability in the City of Ekurhuleni.”

The 10-member Mayoral Committee comprises the following councillors:

MMC of City Planning – Heather Hart (DA)

MMC of Human Settlements – Mabekenyane Thamahane (DA)

MMC of Corporate and Shared Services – Ruhan Robinson (DA)

MMC of Environment and Waste Management – Andre du Plessis (DA)

MMC of Finance – Graham Gersbach (DA)

MMC of Water, Sanitation and Energy – Senzi Sibeko (DA)

MMC of Transport Planning – Alco Ngobese (IFP)

MMC of Health and Social Development – Letta Charlotte Zitha (ActionSA)

MMC of Community Safety – Victor Letlhogonolo Moseki (ActionSA)

MMC of Infrastructure Services – Themba Kalipa (Cope)

Campbell said the committee members are ready to carry out their respective duties.

“While we are fully aware of the challenges and the mammoth task ahead, these capable individuals all share the same like-minded goal: getting services to the communities, making sure our budget is pro-poor and efficiently utilised, and rooting out the scourge of fraud and corruption in Ekurhuleni,” said Campbell.

“Together, we have committed to every single resident and every single business in Ekurhuleni that during this five-year term we will be focused on building a capable, service delivery-driven city that will reposition Ekurhuleni as the economic hub of Gauteng.
“My multi-party Mayoral Committee’s combined institutional knowledge and skill set will map the way forward, and everything we do will be in the best interests of the communities of Ekurhuleni.”

Campbell stated this multi-party democracy is the future and leaders owe it to every resident who placed their trust in them to ensure they deliver a responsive and accountable government that takes Ekurhuleni forward.

“To continually improve and remain accountable to residents and businesses, my newly appointed Mayoral Committee and I will undergo a system of rigorous performance assessment frequently. These assessments will be conducted within the framework of outcome-based service delivery outputs – built on the commitment to fighting corruption and the unwavering purpose of serving the citizens of Ekurhuleni.

“We are already hard at work stabilising the institution and will soon address the infrastructure backlogs. I will, in the coming days, convene a joint meeting with my Mayoral Committee and the heads of departments, as well as the city manager, to ensure our multi-party coalition’s vision is implemented and all our communities benefit.”

Campbell pointed out she had already addressed the long-standing Valuation Role matter with the city manager and the group chief financial officer and they have assured her the matter is urgently being addressed.

“With the ongoing power outages gripping our City, I will immediately task the MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy to undertake an audit and meet with the relevant stakeholders to stabilise our electricity grid. I note the increased cases of vandalism and crime against the City’s energy infrastructure. I condemn this in the strongest terms. I appeal to communities to report any acts of vandalism to the City’s call centre.”

The mayor announced she will today (December 13) launch the City’s Festive Season Campaign with the MMC for Community Safety.

“This is part of our commitment to ensure residents and visitors alike are safe this festive season.
“I also encourage all residents who are not yet vaccinated to do so. We will increase the number of mobile clinics in our communities, as well as ramp up our vaccination drive.”
