Breakthrough for SPCA with dog fighting in Boksburg

The Boksburg SPCA has zero tolerance for dog fighting.

About 10 dogs associated with dog fighting were confiscated last week in Reiger Park and Vosloorus, respectively.

Excited about the breakthrough, Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore said it seems their anti-dog fighting campaign is finally leading them to legitimate tip offs.

According to Finnemore, most of the animals removed last week were suffering with irreparable fighting wounds.

“Old and new scars were noted all over the animal’s heads, legs and necks.

“One of the owners had been illegally cropping his dog’s ears while another kept what appeared to be a ‘bait’ dog on the property for the other dogs to ‘practice’ on.

“Images of this animal could not be posted due to sensitve nature of the content,” said Finnemore.

The manager shared that these confiscations take a lot of precise planning and careful collection of evidence as one mistake can lead to the fast “disappearance” of the dogs involved and their owners.

“The Boksburg SPCA has zero tolerance for dog fighting and it just seems to be getting worse out there, by the day. “The next time you let your pit bull terrier have ‘one more litter of puppies’, look at the photos of what you may be condeming the offspring to,” said Finnemore.

Charges of animal cruelty will be laid against the owners of these animals.
