Afriforum Boksburg makes every drop count

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) encourages community members to donate blood.

A total of 52 units of blood were donated on November 20 during AfriForum’s blood drive initiative and fundraiser at El Ridge Corner Shopping Centre.

Despite not having reached their target of 300 units, AfriForum chairperson Francois Reyneke said the few units they managed to get will help save lives.

“After learning that the SANBS is facing severe bloodstock shortages, we thought it was best to organise this event to make a difference. My wife, Wendy, who used to work for SANBS, was the driving force behind this initiative,” he said.

While SANBS staff were attending to blood donors, AfriForums dedicated team sold boerewors rolls next to the SANBS tent as part of their efforts to raise money towards their annual Christmas drive for the less fortunate children in and around Boksburg.

“With the Christmas drive, we have collaborated with various companies, including the Blue Elephant Car Wash, Legendary Guardians, Debon Air Compressors, XFactor Signs, H2Vape and Meat Net Fruit and Veg to buy Christmas gifts for underprivileged children,” he said.

Reyneke said during the handover of the Christmas presents, they have a convoy around various neighbourhoods in Boksburg where they hand out gifts which includes stationery and other items.

He added that while last year they managed to reach out to 420 children, they are this year hoping to reach 2 000 beneficiaries. Reyneke urged local companies to support this initiative.
