Five more arrests were made the next day for the possession of drugs, 47 motorists were issued fines amounting to around R15 000 and copper cable and counterfeit goods were seized.

Sithole added that they decided to also hold the operation along Barry Marais Road as it has been observed as a car and truck hijacking hotspot.

“We want to make sure that when we leave the area, it is free of crime so the community can feel safe.”

With the approach of the festive season, Sithole assured shoppers they’ve put measures in place to curb criminal elements at malls.

“Because we are aware of the increase of robberies that usually takes place in shopping malls during the festive season, we have deployed officers to various malls in and around Dawn Park,” said Sithole.
