School girl (15) claims taxi driver raped her

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the taxi driver can contact 08600 10111.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Brakpan is investigating a case of sexual assault after a 15-year-old Boksburg girl was allegedly raped by a taxi driver after hitch-hiking from Witfield after school on October 18.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the 15-year-old, who was going home, asked the driver if he was going to the Dunswart taxi rank and he said he was.

“The girl entered the taxi, which had no other passengers, but along the way the driver allegedly stopped along Solomon Street in Witfield, where he took out a knobkerrie and pulled her outside while threatening her not to scream.
“They reportedly walked to a nearby veld where she was raped and then told to get dressed.”

Ramaube said the taxi driver then escorted the teen back to the taxi and dropped her at the Lillianton taxi rank, where she was shown which taxis are going to Dunswart.

“The victim did not open a case on the day of the incident, only on October 21 when she confided in a teacher about the incident and was encouraged to report it.”

A case of rape was opened at the Boksburg North SAPS. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is investigating the matter.

The police are appealing to anyone who might have information which can help the police to trace the taxi driver to contact 08600 10111. Tips can be made anonymously.
