Were you affected by the massive social media outage?

On October 4 social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook stopped working for nearly six hours. We asked locals if they noticed and how did it affect them?

This is what they said:

Elsie Dumas said: “I wasn’t aware of the massive outage until I noticed my messages on Whatsapp were not going through. I was so confused that I even restarted our home Wi-Fi.”
Sebastian Williams said: “I was severely affected because I use social media to communicate with my family who live far away, so that day I couldn’t speak to them. I feel like they should have notified us first.”
Romeo Jacobs said: “It was a very long night on Monday, I couldn’t even sleep. It affected me because I use Whatsapp to communicate with my girlfriend and family members. “
Mamello Ramosoeu said: “I was so stressed when I noticed my messages were not going through on Whatsapp. I think if they had notified us I wouldn’t have stressed the way I did.”
Verah Thibela said: “I use Whatsapp and Facebook to take orders from my clients, so I was affected because I rely on these social media platforms to make a living.”
