SPCA investigating woman ‘dumping’ dog

The motorist who stopped and took the photo was told to mind her own business.

Animal lovers have vented on social media following a recent post showing a woman allegedly dumping a dog along Van Dyk Park Road, near Brakpan Airfield.

The photo of the woman, who is wearing a medical uniform, was taken by a concerned motorist after witnessing what they believed to be the woman dumping the black dog.

In the post, the whistleblower, who asked not to be named, wrote that when she confronted the woman she was told to mind her own business and the woman then put the dog back in the car and sped off.

The post has been circulating since October 4 with people calling for the woman to be brought to book for dumping the animal.

The Boksburg SPCA manager, Vicky Finnemore, confirmed they are investigating the matter. “We would like to assure the public that we are working closely with the hospital group to trace the whereabouts of the person seen in the footage.

“We’ve also been in contact with the witness who photographed the incident and is obtaining affidavits and other evidence that can be used to lay charges of abandonment against the pet owner if such charges are warranted after proper investigation.

“The manager has urged the public to not dump unwanted animals because there’s a chance the animal will get hit by a vehicle or starve to death. “Unwanted animals should be taken to the safety of a local SPCA where they can be rehomed,” Finnemore said. The Boksburg SPCA is appealing to anyone who might have seen the dog to contact the SPCA on 011 916 5906.
