Signs of hope as Ekurhuleni sees downward trend in new Covid-19 cases

Unvaccinated residents are also urged to heed the call to get their vaccines and be protected against severe Covid illness and hospitalisation.

The daily new Covid-19 case numbers in Ekurhuleni continue to have a dramatic downward trend, according to statistics released by the government.

Stats revealed that the City only recorded a total of 10 new Covid-19 infection cases on October 5, bringing the total number of confirmed cases so far in the City to 184 355.
The recoveries were on October 5 at 179 365, a 97% recovery rate, the total number of active cases 253, while the total of Covid-19 related deaths recorded in the City so far was on the day 4 737.

Still, with the encouraging decrease in the number of new cases, the metro emphasised the virus remains a threat, especially due to the large number of people who have not been vaccinated, and thus urged residents to continue adhering to the country’s Covid-19 safety measures such as wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and avoid large gatherings.

“The unvaccinated residents are also urged to heed the call to get their vaccines and be protected against severe Covid illness and hospitalisation,” said metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.

National Institute for Communicable Diseases statistics indicated that daily new Covid-19 case numbers countrywide are showing positive signs in the battle against the pandemic.
