Sewage spills make life a living hell for Witfield residents

The residents have been plagued by raw sewage for weeks in spite of calls made to the municipal call centre to report the blocked drain.

Residents have had to endure an unbearable smell caused by raw sewage and debris spilling from a manhole cover outside a complex on Biddulph Street in Witfield.

According to the frustrated residents, the spillage has left part of the complex and the road verge covered in untreated sewage.
They say the matter was reported to the metro about three weeks ago, but nothing has been done.

Residents have tried to stop the sewage from seeping into their property, but this has proven unsuccessful due to a blocked drain up the road.
Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini was approached for comment, but none has been received at the time of going to press.
