Police surprise Sky Street residents

This came after police heard about the plight of the struggling families in the area.

Sky Street residents were left overwhelmed after three disabled fellow residents received life-changing gifts from the Boksburg North police.

As part of their Casual Day initiative, the police visited the area on September 11 and surprised the disabled residents with new wheelchairs.
According to the Social Crime Prevention unit’s Sgt Madimetja Matwetja, in the light of 2021 Casual Day celebrated September 3, the station decided to do something in support of persons with disabilities in the area.

“We heard about the plight of the Sky Street residents whose families were struggling to replace their old wheelchairs and decided to step in. We then managed to procure these three wheelchairs, which were funded through sponsorships,” explained Matwetja.

Relatives and friends on the scene could hardly keep the smile off their faces as the three were hoisted onto their new wheelchairs outside their homes.

The families of Jason van As (11), Andries Hoffman (17) and Margaret le Roux thanked the police for the life-changing gifts.
According to the families, Jason was diagnosed with serious disabilities from birth, and Andries became paralysed and mentally handicapped after he was run over by a minibus taxi about six years ago in Cason.
Meanwhile, le Roux has for the past couple of years been suffering from basophobia, described as anxiety about falling and its consequences.

“My mother is unable to stand up or walk on her own as she experiences a lot of anxiety about falling. This donation is going to make her life much easier, and it’s going to make our lives as the family a lot easier because we were finding it harder to get around with her using the small wheelchair,” said le Roux’s daughter Nicoline.
The police thanked the local business, Repro Suppliers, Pawn Star and Mr Fats, for supporting the worthy cause.
