“Tryston is a machine and he remained religious despite everything. We’re so proud of him. He is an inspiration.”

Jan explained Tryston broke his pelvis, the bone above his coccyx and cracked a vertebra. His neck is also slightly hurt.

“It seems like he will have to stay in hospital for six to eight weeks. He must also undergo rehabilitation to learn how to strengthen his muscles,” said Jan.

The parents said they do not harbour any bad feelings towards the school. “It was a freak accident. The boys were just being boys,” said Jan.

The school and its governing body also handed the parents a hamper with items sweets to the parents on September 17.

The school’s reception personal also wore T-shirts that read “Die kantoortannies skenk bloed vir Tryston” at the school’s blood drive. Jan expressed his gratitude to all those who supported Tryston and his family.

“We’re also thankful for the great service we received from Netcare 911 and the trauma unit of the Netcare Union Hospital,” said Jan.
