Golf day for little fighter Chereez a success

The little girl's mother described the event as a success and said they raised R71 950.

Pieter and Angelique Nel hosted a fund-raising golf day for their little cancer survivor, Chereez (6), at the Ebotse Country Estate in Benoni on August 27.

According to the girl’s mother, the main objective of the golf day was to raise funds for her medical bills.

Angelique described the event as a success and said they raised R71 950.

“We were joined on the day by 141 supporters and are very satisfied with the turnout.

“One thing about the event that stood out was our little fighter Chereez giving a short speech and a small poem.

“Furthermore, musician Samantha Leonard performed and Pieter Koen was the MC on the day.

“Former Springbok Victor Matfield also did a Q&A with Pieter,” said Angelique.

She expressed her gratitude to everybody who contributed to the success of the event.

“We would like to thank all the sponsors, hole and fourball. Also, a special thanks to Ebotse Golf and Country Estate and Off Course Golf Promotions,” she added.

Chereez, who lives in Boksburg, was diagnosed with undifferentiated soft sarcoma stage three cancer early in 2018.

She received proton treatment from August 2018 to the end of October 2018 at the Maryland Proton Treatment Centre in Baltimore in the USA. In December 2018, the Nel family received the news that Chereez is cancer-free.

Although Chereez’s story is positive at this point, the Nel family still needs to pay R1 128 850 back to the donor who made the trip (which costed R3.2-million) to the USA for treatment possible.
