Joint effort helps to clean up Serfontein Park

About 40 members of the Christian Family Church, Boksburg North CPF Sector Four and the community recently took it upon themselves to clean the Serfontein Park in Boksburg North on August 21.

The clean-up session, which took place from 07:00 to 13:00, was initiated by Christian Family Church member Hanlie Steyn and formed part of the church’s Serve Our City project.

According to Steyn, volunteers picked up litter, cut overgrown grass with a bush cutter and placed bins around the park amongst other things.

“We found loads and loads of trash at the park. There were beer bottles, broken glass and disposable nappies.

“We also found numerous animal carcasses, and hundreds of drug sachets, syringes, and needles. Two six-ton skips and several loads of rubbish had to be taken to the local dump yard,” said Steyn.

She expressed her gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the event.

“We would like to thank all CPF members, the boys who play soccer at the park, Oasis Water (for sponsoring water to all the volunteers) and Wilma Ewest Attorneys (for sponsoring boerewors rolls),” she added.

Ward 22 Clr Ruhan Robinson said he is proud that the community came together to assist in making their park look better.
