Shack fire victims seek help after homes destroyed

None of the affected people sustained injuries during the fire.

About eight families from Ramaphosa informal settlement have been left displaced after their shacks burnt down on August 16.

The families are urgently seeking help from the community.

Mlungisi Khanyile, who lost all his belongings in the fire, said the fire broke out in one of the shacks around 11:00 before spreading to the other shacks in the yard.

“I was on top of the roof when I heard neighbours screaming that the shacks were on fire. We couldn’t save anything because the fire had spread so fast.”

Khanyile said they hope for donations from neighbours.

“We are pleading for assistance from the community to help us rebuild our lives. We are in need of food, clothes, blankets and toiletries,” said Khanyile.

To assist the families you may contact Const Lufuno Mudzuli of the Reiger Park SAPS on 071 675 8555.
