How to apply for the R350 special grant

Beneficiaries who have not yet collected their R350 grant awarded from the previous cycle are advised to check their status on the system.

Following the announcement of President Cyril Ramaphosa to reinstate the Social Relief of Distress grant until the end of March, Sassa informed applicants about different channels they can use to apply for the special R350 grant.

These application channels include:
• Whatsapp: 082 046 8553
• Website: www.srd.sassa.gov.za
• https://govchat.app/login

Qualifying criteria of the R350 grant:
• South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers, special permit holders (Angola, Lesotho and Zimbabwe)
• No source of income or financial support
• Above the age of 18 and below 60 not receiving a social grant for themselves
• Not awaiting UIF or qualifying for one
• Not receiving NSFAS or approved for NFSAS
• Residing within the borders of South Africa
• Not in any state institution

According to Sassa Gauteng spokesperson Nandi Mosia, all qualifying applicants must complete their application using the channels above.

“Applicants who received R350 grant in the previous cycle need to refresh their information on the system and agree to the declaration, as well as give Sassa consent and confirmation that their circumstances have not changed. Unemployed caregivers who do not receive any social grant for themselves but who receive child grants, such as child support, foster care grant and care dependency grant, may apply for the R350 grant if they have no income. This is because grant money received by these caregivers is for the children and not themselves.”

Mosia said applicants who were previously rejected and in changed circumstances, are advised to apply as well.

“Upon application, applicants are encouraged to have their valid and active bank account information ready if they do not wish to receive the grant from the post office. There is another option to choose electronic vouchers, which can be accessed from your bank of choice.”

The application for the special R350 grant shall be considered from the month of application until the end of March, if the applicants circumstances have not changed upon information verification.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries who have not yet collected their R350 grant awarded from the previous cycle are advised to check their status on the system. If approved for payment, they must present themselves at the nearest post office with their identity document for collection of their grant.
