Boksburg Municipal Traffic Court bids its senior prosecutor farewell

Gama told the Advertiser he introduced a number of new things aimed at enhancing service delivery.

Members of the Boksburg Municipal Traffic Court and EMPD bade farewell to the precinct’s senior public prosecutor, Bongani Gama, who has reached his retirement milestone.

The team organised a memorably small event at the Boksburg Civic Centre to celebrate Gama’s achievement on July 28. However, due to the pandemic, only a few members were able to attend to say their goodbyes before his last working day on July 30.

Gama started as a traffic officer in 1983 in the then Johannesburg Traffic Department, now known as the JMPD. He then joined the Boksburg precinct in 1999. He was appointed as the Municipal Traffic Court senior prosecutor, dealing with the prosecution of all municipal-related matters.

Gama told the Advertiser he introduced a number of new things aimed at enhancing service delivery, and found the job quite interesting, as he had the opportunity to meet different people with different problems.
When asked about the new chapter of his life as a retiree, Gama pointed out that as he had been a sportsman from childhood, he hoped to one day become active again.

“I’ve been a sportsman almost my entire life, but I had to stop after I recently became sick. I’m hoping I will be able to go back to boxing and weightlifting once I’m healthy.”

Colleagues who had organised the farewell party paid tribute to the retiree senior prosecutor, saying Gama will be missed but never forgotten.
“Gama was like a father to many of us. He is big-hearted and has taught us so much,” said one of the event organisers, Monique.
