Meet our July Hero of the Month

We thank everyone who nominated their community hero's for the month of July.

This month’s winner of the Advertiser/West Pack Lifestyle Hero of the Month competition, Yosheen Moodley has proven that a person doesn’t have to live in a certain area for many years in order to make contributions to that community.

Moodley who has been a resident of Boksburg for only two years has since impacted so many lives through her Non-profit organisation called Kindness Keystone which focuses on the welfare of people and animals in need.

The 40-year-old Eveleigh resident who has been described as tiny lady with a huge heart by her nominator, has for the past few years assisted disadvantaged people in KwaZulu-Natal and has proceeded to reach out to people of Boksburg.

For her good deeds, she has won herself an R1 000 West Pack voucher after being nominated as a community hero. She has worked at a children’s home called Sinakekele where she would always donate essential items for the children and staff members. She has also reached out to an orphanage for boys that’s founded by the Potter’s Hands Ministries where she cooked meals and spent time with the boys.

“When I moved to Boksburg I saw a gap that I needed to try and fill with the little that I had. I’ve organised outfits for young women who seek employment so that when go for interviews they too can look professional. I remember while still young it was difficult for me to get clothes. I know how it feels to go into workplaces looking good because it also boosts your confidence.”

Moodley has clothed and feed hundreds of homeless people in Boksburg.

“With the support of my husband Neolan, we have prepared food for the destitute. Along with the food, we’ve also handed out toiletries and sanitary pads for women. Last year we also reached out to St Francis Care Centre where we donated care packs to the centre.”

This animal lover has also taken in stray animals to vaccinate and sterilise them before rehoming them. She has donated pet food to local animal shelters such as Tag, Boksburg and the Benoni SPCA. Besides her charitable side, she owns a Home Deco and Lifestyle business, called ‘Yes, Live Gorgeously’ which enables her financially to sustain her passion of looking after the community.

“My business merges beautifully with the NPO because it embodies the other side of me that wants people to live happily and comfortably. Even saying uplifting words to people every day can help.”

Moodley who lost her mother (70) last month due to a long illness, said her mother installed a heart of giving in her.

“My father died when I was six, so my whole life my mom was my role model

“From a young age my mom taught me not to wasteful because there are people who are hungry and to always share with those who don’t have.”

She added that her mother and her husband have so far been her pillar of strength and her biggest motivator in regards to her NPO.
