Tribute to fallen Boksburg police officer Capt Nase

Nase will be laid to rest on July 10, and is survived by his wife, two children and two grandchildren.

Family, colleagues and friends are in mourning after the passing of a senior Boksburg SAPS officer following a battle with Covid-19.

The 53-year-old Cap Andries Nkululeko Nase’s family confirmed the 30-year veteran of the SAPS died at Sunward Park Hospital on July 4.
Nase struggled with his health after he and a handful of his colleagues recently tested positive for Covid-19.

He is among the long-serving members of the Boksburg Police Station, and has been a resident of Boksburg since 1994. At the time of his death, he was serving as the head of the station’s Firearm Registration Centre (FRC).

Nase’s wife, Bonisiwe, described her late husband as a humble, dedicated, supportive but firm man who never hesitated to help where he could.
“It’s a great loss to us. Nase had always been a pillar of strength for our family. We have been married for a very long time and we had become like friends or siblings.

“You are a special person who will always remain in our hearts and thoughts. Rest in peace baba, you will be sorely missed by all of us.”

Friends and relatives have since paid tribute to the fallen officer and offered their sincere condolences to the Nase family, as well as the Boksburg SAPS.
Nase will be laid to rest on July 10 in Boksburg. He is survived by his wife, two children Mongezi and Phumzile, and two grandchildren, Nkosinathi and Lungisani.

The family expressed their gratitude to Nase’s colleague Sgt Piet Legodi who remained a pillar of support for the family following the passing of Nase.

Nase’s death came shortly before Police Minister Bheki Cele launched government’s inoculation campaign targeting the country’s police sector on July 5 in Soweto. The police vaccination drive is expected to cover over 180 000 officers.
Cele recently revealed that Covid-19 has robbed the sector of hundreds of police officers and support personnel across the country in the past year.

Many police stations, including those in Boksburg, also had to be shut down due to some officers having tested positive.
