Do your part for Mandela Day by supporting Kuselo

Community members can drop off food items, toiletries, cleaning materials and clothing at the centre for Mandela Day.

The public is invited to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day, July 18, by making donations towards the children at Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services.

The NPO temporarily provides a stable home for abused and neglected children at its Heaven Sent safe house in Boksburg North.

According to the founder of Kuselo, Amanda Coetzee, the organisation will appreciate the public’s support as they are also bearing the brunt of the lockdown.

“It’s difficult. At this moment, we have a shutdown policy as South Africa is in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we can’t allow members of the public inside the safe house. We’re also unable to host fund-raising events,” she said.

Coetzee highlighted the community can drop off food items, toiletries, cleaning materials and clothing at the centre.

If community members are unable to drop off items, they can make a monetary donation to assist with the day-to-day management of the safe house. Residents and companies can also buy an electricity voucher for the safe house and send the voucher number to Coetzee on 072 512 7227.

“Furthermore, we’re still in need of funds to purchase the safe house and haven’t received a lot of contributions.”

Coetzee previously said in order to buy the property, Kuselo will have to raise an estimated amount of R1.5-million before the end of the year.

“The amount includes the purchase of the premises and all other fees incurred, as well as much needed renovations. The purchase amount of R800 000 for the property is only valid for 12 months,” she explained.

If you can assist the organisation in any way, contact Coetzee on the number mentioned above.
