Local business feeds the hungry during Covid-19 crisis

Their efforts may not be enough to reach out to all, and for that reason, they are encouraging other local businesses to support the initiative.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the economy and employment across the world, a Boksburg car wash business has taken it upon itself to save the poor.

Car Wash ConneXtion owners Rodger and Candice September said they decided to start a soup kitchen at their business located at Dayan Glen shopping Centre, where hungry people will be fed every Friday between 08:00 and 9:00.
Rodger said they have noticed that several hungry people, including the homeless, are roaming the streets in the vicinity of their business, looking for jobs or something to eat.

Some of them are from nearby impoverished informal settlements where many families are battling hunger, poverty and unemployment.

“As a local business, the plight of the vulnerable fellow citizens who cannot afford a nutritious diet and lack income prompted our business to give back whatever we could,” said Rodger.

The business operators, however, understand that their efforts may not be enough to reach out to all. And for that reason, they are encouraging other local businesses to partner with them in rescuing the starving community members.
“We’d appreciate any form of donation to help sustain our initiative.”
