Charity raffle winner donates winnings back to senior citizens

Saturday morning (June 26) was time for the Scribante Golden Walkers Athletics Club raffle draw.

Thes draw saw the lucky winner donating the prize back to the elderly people’s club.

Late last year, members of the walking club launched a fund-raising initiative by selling raffle tickets for R15 each. Through the ticket sale, the club managed to raise R4 000.
The initiative received massive support from individuals and businesses, and others from as far as in the Western Cape. And the lucky raffle draw winner is Meat Mania, a local business located in Boksburg North.

The very generous lucky participant won a hand-made 3D painting worth R3 500 but decided to give the prize back to the club. The club has not yet decided on what they will do with the prize, but are open to a number of options including selling it privately.

The main supporters of the initiative are Pick and Pay Towers, Meat Mania, Ilala Garden Centre and Compro Auto Electrical – Motolek.

The club’s treasurer Marietjie Gouws thanked all the individuals and businesses who supported the initiative, as well as the club members who assisted in ensuring that the project becomes a success.
“Thank you for all the great work you do in our communities.”

Club objective
The objective of the club is to help local elderly people improve their fitness levels.

Since its establishment last year, members have had the opportunity to participate in a number of fitness activities. These include a hiking trip at the Rietvlei Zoo Farm, where club members walked
