July is filled with interesting sports fixtures and competitions. What has happened so far and what’s worth looking forward to?

June has seen the wonderful world of sport come to life with sports fans being spoilt for choice. What’s even better is that there is so much action to look forward to this July.

The race is on in this year’s Tour de France which started off with a few wobbles on the road when a fan came too close to a peloton causing a massive accident. There are still many race days to complete before the final race day on the 18th July. Will last year’s winner Tadej Pogačar from Slovenia overtake the other riders again this year and walk away as the champion?

The Wimbledon tennis tournament is also being played in London currently. South Africa’s Kevin Anderson unfortunately did not progress after losing to Djokovic on the centre court on Wednesday.  Spectators have been allowed back in this year’s tournament with 42 000 fans being able to attend. The men’s final match will be played on the 14th of July with the woman’s final taking place the next day on the 15th. Andrew Murray is making a comeback in tennis and is also competing in this year’s tournament.

Football fans have had a wonderful football extravaganza with two massive tournaments taking place at the same time. There has been plenty of upsets in the EURO 2020 this year as some of the favourite teams to win has fallen out of the tournament. The Netherlands and France are two countries that have failed to advance. France lost against underdogs Switzerland in their Round of 16 match when the match went on to penalties. The Euro 2020 is now at quarter final stage. The Netherlands who scored the most goals in their group stage games lost their last round of 16 match against Czech Republic 2-0. The semi finals will take place on the 6th and 7th of July with the final taking place on the 11th of July.

The COPA America is also reaching the final stages of the competition. Brazil and Argentina are the two teams that are dominating this year’s COPA which is being hosted in Brazil. You will need to stay up late in order to watch the final match which will be played on the 11th of July at 02:00 in the morning.

Kaizer Chiefs has made Mzansi proud by progressing to the final of the CAF Champions League against Al Ahly. The finals will be played in Egypt on the 17th of July at 21:00.
