Grade 12 learners of Reiger Park Secondary School picketed outside the school today (June 18), calling for the school to close for a week following reported positive cases of Covid-19.
Speaking to the Advertiser, one concerned parent, who asked for her identity not to be revealed, said last week she heard that four children tested positive for the virus.
“My child then told me he saw those children back at school despite their health status. Our children’s health are at risk and I feel their health is not taken seriously enough. After all, the the school did not follow due processes of closing the school and notifying the parents.”

The parent alleged some teachers also tested positive for Covid-19 but they continue coming to class to teach.
“We want the school to shut down until it’s been decontaminated,” she said.
Another parent, who took her child to the clinic last week, said she heard nurses at the Reiger Park Clinic saying they’ve seen an increase in the number of learners from the school complaining about having fevers.
The Advertiser tried calling the school but was told the principal was in a meeting.
