Two suspects arrested for local businessman’s murder

The suspects are reportedly in a critical condition in hospital.

The Boksburg North police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old businessman who was killed outside his Balmoral Liquor Store in Lillianton on May 11.

The pair were found by the police in a local hospital after being admitted due to the bullet wounds sustained during the robbery.

The victim was shot dead as he was reportedly attempting to protect his wife, who was being attacked by the four armed men outside the store.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson, Const Justice Ramaube, the suspects are in critical condition in hospital under police guard.

“They were each charged with armed robbery and murder. Police are still searching for the two other suspects. Investigations are underway,” said Ramaube.

After noticing the suspicious-looking armed gang, the deceased’s wife tried to leave the premises, but as she was getting in her car, the assailants confronted her and took her BMW car keys. They then took the undisclosed amount of money she was carrying and her cellphone.

According to the police, during the squabble with the men, her husband fired a warning shot while inside the liquor store but the men apparently ignored the shots.

The businessman apparently went outside and shot two shots in the direction of the suspects. They retaliated and shot back at him, hitting him twice in his stomach. He then succumbed to his gunshot wounds on the scene.
The suspects stole his gun before fleeing the scene.

The police are appealing to the community to assist them with information on the whereabouts of the other suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Boksburg North SAPS on 071 675 6986.
