Stripped Boksburg North electricity box a cause for concern

Residents tried to get the municipality to address the problem, but they were not getting any joy.

Boksburg North residents have expressed concerns about the risk posed by the stripped high-voltage electricity box near Laerskool Goudrand.
The box, located on the corner of 8th Street and 5th Avenue, had been stripped of its protective enclosure and left open with exposed live wires and other electrical components.

The Advertiser visited the area, after concerned residents posted the vandalised electricity box on social media, saying the problem was reported early this year, but they were not getting any joy.
This publication found the utility infrastructure had been vandalised and the area around it has also been turned into a dumpsite for household waste. It also appears the exposed live wires had apparently been tampered with.

Many people have expressed concern over the metro’s delay in fixing this stripped electricity box outside a school in Boksburg North.

Ward 22 councillor Ruhan Robinson said he also reported the condition of the box to the energy department several times but has not received any feedback.
“I’ve been getting a lot of complaints from residents complaining the exposed electrical components put their lives at risk, and the buzzing sound could be an indication of something wrong with the electricity box.”

No comment received from the metro at the time of going to press.
