Advertiser readers share their thoughts on bullying in schools

The scourge of bullying in schools has recently been in the limelight, we asked locals if they think schools are doing enough to curb bullying.

Marizka Kloppers: “Teachers should be trained on how to deal with bullying in schools because I feel they are failing our children. If training can be conducted in all the schools, I believe cases of bullying will decrease.”

Mona Barnard: “Schools should create more awareness programmes so that learners can know what to do when they feel victimised. Teachers also need to be more approachable so that learners can report bullying.”

George Zina: “I think schools are doing their best to control bullying, but there’s room for improvement.”

Johannah Tladi: “I feel schools are not doing enough because if they were, we wouldn’t be hearing about any cases of violence in schools. I think every school should appoint guards who will monitor bullying.”

Anita Meyer: “Parents must work hand in hand with schools to discipline their children. Schools can’t deal with unruly children alone; discipline needs to start at home.”
